Melanie's Creations with the Brother's Disney Embroidery Machine

The machine is made by Brother and is a computerized sewing machine and embroidery machine. You have to get the machines from an authorized Brother dealer. Brother has the license for the use of Disney Characters. The machine is really neat, when you turn it on, the screen shows a door opening and Mickey and the gang peek out and say hello.

I've been sewing since I was a little girl and I bought my first sewing/embroidery machine 5 yrs ago, when I saw the new and improved machine a little over a year ago I wanted it, but really couldn't justify spending more money on it. (they are VERY expensive) Then right before my birthday last year, I happened to be in my local dealer's store for something and saw the Disney machine. Well, for me there is nothing better than Disney and Sewing. My 2 biggest loves. My sometimes wonderful husband told me to go ahead and trade in my old machine for the new Disney one. That was a year ago and I just paid it off.

I have talked to quite a few people who have asked about these machines. They are NOT for people who can't sew. It may seem as if the machine does all the work, but a background in sewing is really needed to operate it. Right now Brother has released 5 embroidery cards (these are cards that inserted into the machine give you designs to sew out) that are Disney Characters. These cards only work in the Disney machines. There is also another machine available with Disney characters that does embroidery ONLY and no regular sewing. Those are a lot less expensive and you can get them at some Sears stores. Anyone who is interested in the machines should check out the Brother website for more information. They have pictures and descriptions of all the machines.

I Love being able to put Disney characters on my clothes and for gifts. Its nice when you can buy a $5 t-shirt and embroider on it and you have a great gift. Same thing for sweatshirts, totebags, hats... The only drawback is that I am not allowed to sell items that I embroidered with Disney. Disney owns the copyrights even though the machines cost around $6,000 and the embroidery cards can be up to $150 each.

So I have enough to sew with my own things and stuff for friends. Good thing I know how to sew because thats the only way I can make a little money from the machine. By sewing clothes and things for people. My first big project I made for myself was a Christmas tree skirt with all the characters on it. I will get a picture up of that as soon as I can. Some of my ideas came from the Brother website, or I just look through the latest Disney Store catalog and that usually gives me some creative ideas.
