Deciphering TheMouseForLess
Databases! Again!
By Michael Boyer - 1/25/2002
So how do the MFL databases work and what can I do with them?!
- You get to the TheMouseForLess Database page using this link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheMouseForLess/database
- You click on the name of the table you want to view or add a record to.
e.g. "TheMouseForLess TIPs"
- You can click on "Add Record" on the upper left of the screen to enter
your own data record to the table if you so desire.
- All fields in the table are ordinary text fields AND as far as I can tell
do not have a limit on the amount of text that can be entered (within reason of course :-). The table description and field names should be intuitive enough to indicate what kind of information to place in each field. If you are not sure what is required in a field, look at other records for
examples.
- After you've filled in all fields, click on "Save Record" and you are
done. WARNING! Once you save, you cannot edit or delete so "MAKE SURE" before you save! ONLY moderators can edit and delete. We've got to have a little special "power" for ourselves, it is only fair:-)
- You can use the "Printable report" button on the upper left of the table
page to get a nicely formatted version of the data suitable for printing.
In fact some members like this Printable version for viewing since it
displays ALL records on one scrollable screen without having to click next
to move through multiple pages of records.
- You could even "import" or "export" large blocks of data, BUT I don't
think there will be a need under normal circumstance for this capability, so please do NOT use this feature unless a moderator directs you to.
Moderators will use the import/export capability to cleanup and organize the data you enter periodically.
These database tables will be moderated, so if any unusual data inadvertently gets into a table, it will be deleted or edited at the moderators
discretion. Also if you do make a mistake in data entry or change your mind or decide you want your record deleted, just send an email to
TheMouseForLess-owner@yahoogroups.com and one of the moderators will be happy to fixup your goof :-)
